The A’s would need 75% approval to complete the relocation. But hope emerged this week for Oakland baseball fans: USA Today reported that the city could join Nashville, Tenn., as a top candidate for expansion teams in the next five years. For that to happen, though, a wealthy ownership group needs to emerge immediately. It also needs the wherewithal to pay the expansion fee, estimated at $2 billion, and build a ballpark.“If there’s an ownership group that wants to try to get a team in Oakland, they should voice themselves now and arrange meetings with the commissioner and show why Oakland is viable for an expansion team and what they plan to do as an ownership group,” former A’s star Dave Stewart said...

Jets’ Zach Wilson is stepping in for Aaron Rodgers with renewed confidence and swagger

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Zach Wilson was in the middle of the locker room Thursday talking about taking over for the injured Aaron Rodgers when a teammate shouted and made the New York Jets quarterback grin.“Zach, we love you, bro!”It was a light moment, but one that was telling.Wilson struggled mightily during his first two NFL seasons and his confidence took a massive hit, and so did his popularity in the locker room. He was benched twice last season and his playing future — particularly with the Jets — was uncertain when New York acquired Rodgers in April. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft was no longer the face of the franchise. But Wilson insisted he would soak up as much football knowledge as he could from the sideline and learn from Rodgers, the four-time NFL MVP and one-time Super Bowl winner. He found himself back in the huddle after just four snaps with Rodgers out for the season with a torn left Achilles tendon suffered in the Jets’ season-opening overtime w...

Among the winners was Jan Zalasiewicz of Poland who earned the chemistry and geology prize for explaining why many scientists like to lick rocks. “Licking the rock, of course, is part of the geologist’s and palaeontologist’s armoury of tried-and-much-tested techniques used to help survive in the field,” Zalasiewicz wrote in The Palaeontological Association newsletter in 2017. “Wetting the surface allows fossil and mineral textures to stand out sharply, rather than being lost in the blur of intersecting micro...
