The iconic Budweiser Clydesdales will no longer have their tails shortened using a common, yet controversial, procedure that has drawn the ire of animal activists, parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev announced Wednesday. The brewer said in a statement that the change was made earlier this year, stressing that the safety of the horses was a “top priority.” The statement coincided with an announcement that it had obtained an animal welfare certification for the horses, as well as the dalmatians that serve as their companions. The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, led protests and mounted a nationwide ad campaign, with billboards depicting the horses reading “Severed Tails: Cruelty to Clydesdales.” With the announcement that tail-docking has ceased, PETA is “cracking open some cold ones to celebrate," Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo said in a news release. Pour the concrete, paint the lines and stand up the nets.Centennial lifted its six-month ban on the construction of outdoor pickleball courts shortly before midnight Tuesday after the City Council passed new rules and regulations for a sport that has exploded in popularity across the country in recent years. It also has generated a spate of noise complaints nationwide and resulted in court closures and lawsuits. The vote to end the March moratorium on new court construction was 9-0 during the four-hour meeting. But several council members noted that this is not the end of the discussion about the potential impacts of pickleball play.“We do need to get something on the books, at least a line in the sand right here,” Councilman Richard Holt said. “It’s not going to be perfect — this is the first shot we’re doing. Molly Duplechian, executive director of the Denver Department of Excise and Licenses, declined to comment on why she rejected it, but in her decision, she wrote that “any agreement reache...
